1. Do you think Mrs. Jones is wise or foolish to trust
Roger? Why?
Her trust to me was simple act of sincerity she could easily tell that this boy was simply confused like she used to be in her life that is why it wasn’t foolish at all.
2. What does Mrs. Jones do when Roger tries to steal
her purse?
She kicked him down and shook him and made him give back the item he tried to steal.
3. What can you tell about her character
from this action?
She is very violent but just, she is very driven and disciplined woman
4. How are her actions connected
to her past experiences?
She herself was tempted to steal she doesn’t outright say what type of things she desired and if she was in a poor financial state but she was probably doing things like the boy was.
5. Recall: What does Roger do when Mrs. Jones leaves him
alone with her purse?
He stays distant from it and tries to be in her vision so she wouldn’t think that he”s planning to run off with it.
6. Why does he do this?
To try and gain her trust but i believe that ms jones has trust in him from the beginning because again she probably sees herself in him.
7. How have Roger’s behavior
and attitude changed?
His understanding of people have changed but him as a person not at all because in a sense all children are innocent.
8. Recall: What do Mrs. Jones and Roger talk about during
their meal?
She talked about her beauty hotel that ran what happened there and what type of people would come in she especially mentioned brunettes, blondes and redheads.
Draw Conclusions:
. Why doesn’t Mrs. Jones ask Roger any personal questions?
well its said that she doesn’t want to embarrass him but i believe she doesn’t want to ruin his appetite by reminding him of his probable bad childhood
. What does Roger say when he leaves the apartment?
he tries to thank her for her kindness and gratitude towards him but before he can try to say them he stunned and only lips the words thank you ma’m” and she closes the door on him.
. What more does he want to say?
Predict:
Well he would have probably also tell her that she was the kindest person he had ever met because she didn’t punish him for trying to steal.
What effect will Mrs. Jones’s actions have on
Roger’s future?
I don’t think he would have had a future because of the fact he had no home nor a family to take care of him even though hes thirteen that still would have been problematic.
Make a Judgment:
Does Mrs. Jones make good choices about how to treat Roger?
I believe it was a very poor choice to let a minor be alone in the streets with simply a lesson to boot that be thankful and listen to god would fill his stomach. She should have contacted the police or just let the boy stay at her place she wasn’t beyond simply financially stable she had a hotel she would have been capable of taking care of one boy even if she had a kid of her own.
