The world of vigilante heroes

HISTORY

The definition of a vigilante is very simple yet very morally difficult to grasp in short terms. A vigilante is someone who prevents, investigates, and punishes perceived offenses and crimes without legal authority. Someone who does need jurisdiction from law figures to act upon what they think is the righteous and correct thing to do. And this very act and ideology are prominent and well explored in comics especially very mainstream comics like Marvel and DC. But I won’t be discussing the popular media in these comics not the flashy or known heroes but those which are not recognized.

Comic book vigilantism is hard to generally track down or get info on their origin or beginning the simplest ones are Spiderman and Batman both upholding the vigilante code of working alone and taking all the responsibility of being a hero but that is incredibly well-known around the world they are the simple history of comic book vigilantism and there is no real point to introduce them but what I will be introducing is something much more complex and dark in its nature. I’ll be talking about characters who are hard to call simply “heroes” but maybe anti-heroes is the correct understanding for some of them the idea is that some of them kill thinking that the true consequence for misconduct is death they think punishment exists as a permanent consequence to their sins that it’s just to not even give people the chance for redemption but the first character who is arguably the first hero in media who recently got added into comics is zorro the masked and caped swashbuckling vigilante who wields a rapier and a whip. He is the very character who influenced Batman and many other writers and characters to come into media and comic books.

He also is the heart of revolutionary thinking and an attack against corrupt businessmen men the main plots of the films of Zorro are about him disrupting the plans of evil money-hungry men who were trying to steal from people who rightfully owned those riches. And does Zorro introduce vigilantism into the world? The character of Zorro is a very interesting one where there are versions of him being a delinquent turned into a fine and noble man who knows the rules of etiquette but he is also very compassionate knowing how to dance and sway people with charisma.

Zorro was a pretty broad character who is a good beginning to this generation of superhero but there is a character which i really resonate with and like a lot because of how much he explores the moral ethics of his actions and how he tries to deal with them
